Marshfield playground is brilliant and just 10 minutes from Bath. It’s a really decent size with great equipment for older children, there’s also a skate park nearby and the quiet high street’s a short walk for a browse and a coffee.
We usually venture to Marshfield as a half way meeting point with a friend. We make a pit stop at Sweet Apples for a coffee and homemade cake before heading off for a mini-adventure. The park is a 10 minute walk from the High Street but we loop round via a pond to feed the ducks or take a picnic and park beside the playground.
For us it’s a great space where they can tear about but I can’t loose them when they run in different directions. It has lots of climbing structures and although some are a bit too tricky for my eldest at 3.5 it’s great to have a challenge. It’s always very quiet here during the day when we visit. They race around, climb up the structure and then down the slide. It can be a pretty windy spot so wrap up.
We sometimes miss out the playground altogether and visit the animals and have a play on the cricket pitch where they can run around. Head down Sheepfair Lane and spot the wallaby, pigs and horse.
The Playground. There’s a pretty big playground with plenty of play equipment for different ages, perhaps more for older children but there’s plenty the smaller ones can get stuck into. It has plenty of swings, a big structure in the middle to clamber over then slide down. Lots of climbing, balancing structures and a zip wire.
The Skate Park. I’ve heard good things about this skatepark. Skateparks.co.uk describe it as made up of metal ramps on a tarmac base, a back and forth run with a quarter pipe and flat bank either side of a funbox.
The Cafe. Sweet Apples Teashop has wonderful homemade fair from cakes to sausage rolls, flat white to a decadent hot chocolate topped with marshmallows and cream. We often grab a takeaway and head to the park.
The Ice Cream. On the weekend there’s always the option of popping into Marshfield Farm Parlour which is a 5 min drive away.
The Animal Walk. Our animal walk is quite simple, head down Sheepfair Lane, a quiet country lane, and spot some lovely animals including a wallaby, to the cricket pitch where they have a tear around and have a look at the tractor.
The High Street. It’s a very quiet high street but has some lovely shops including a butchers, post office & shop, a vintage shop and a lovely pub.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION
BUGGY: It’s all paved and buggy friendly although some sections are on a quiet road. The playground is accessed via a grassy field but is not very far at all from the road.
DOGS: Dogs aren’t allowed in the enclosed playground but can run around the adjacent fields.
